The Under-Eye TreatmentFew Others Can Match

The periorbital area is one of the most structurally complex and delicate zones on the face, and one of the most visible indicators of age and fatigue. PDRN is among the injectable treatments specifically appropriate for this area — improving skin quality without adding volume.

What's Covered

The skin under the eye is the thinnest on the face — approximately 0.5mm, compared to 2mm elsewhere. The structural fat compartments below it are small and subject to early atrophy. The lymphatic drainage in this area is easily disrupted. Crucially, many treatments that work well on the rest of the face are contraindicated or carry elevated risk in the periorbital zone. Standard HA fillers in the tear trough produce good results in the right candidate — but are not appropriate for skin with poor laxity, puffiness, or structural complexity where volume addition may worsen rather than improve appearance. PDRN does not add volume. It improves the quality of the skin itself — regenerating tissue architecture, improving local circulation, reducing inflammation, and stimulating the collagen and elastin that restore firmness and thickness to the under-eye skin.

01Dark circles

Dark circles under the eyes have multiple causes — vascular (visible blood vessels through thin skin), pigmentary (melanin deposition from chronic inflammation or sun damage), and structural (shadow from hollowing). PDRN addresses two directly: thickening the under-eye skin reduces visibility of the underlying vasculature, and its anti-inflammatory action reduces melanocyte activity, progressively improving pigmentary discolouration over a course of treatment.

02Crepey skin and fine lines

The hallmark of periorbital ageing — fine crepe-paper texture and superficial lines that develop in thinning skin — responds well to PDRN's collagen and elastin stimulation. As tissue quality improves, the skin becomes thicker, more resilient, and smoother.

03Puffiness and fluid retention

PDRN's anti-inflammatory action and its effect on the local extracellular matrix support improved lymphatic drainage in the periorbital area — reducing the chronic mild puffiness that makes under-eye skin look tired even after sleep.

04Overall periorbital skin quality

PDRN improves the texture, tone, and resilience of the under-eye skin as a whole — the cumulative effect is a less tired, more rested appearance that does not look treated.

05Why PDRN rather than tear trough filler

Tear trough filler is an appropriate treatment for the right candidate — someone with a genuine structural hollow, adequate skin thickness, and no tendency to puffiness. For many people presenting with under-eye concerns, the primary issue is not volume loss but skin quality — thin, crepey, dark-circled skin that would not benefit from, and may be worsened by, volume addition. PDRN addresses the skin quality component directly. Your clinician will assess which approach — or combination — is most suitable for your anatomy.

06How the session works

Topical anaesthetic applied to the full face including periorbital area before treatment begins. The under-eye area is treated with careful attention to the specific structural and skin quality concerns in this zone. Total treatment time approximately 45–60 minutes.

A course of 3–4 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart is standard for periorbital treatment. Maintenance every 4–6 months sustains the result.

Audience

Who It's For

PDRN Eye is indicated for clients whose under-eye concerns reflect skin quality rather than purely structural volume loss.

  • Dark circles, crepey texture, or fine lines under the eyes — wanting improvement in skin quality rather than volume addition
  • Told you are not an ideal candidate for tear trough filler — due to thin skin, puffiness, or structural anatomy
  • Periorbital skin too thin or reactive for more aggressive treatments
  • Primary under-eye concern is a tired, dull, or aged appearance rather than a deep structural hollow
  • Want to complement existing tear trough filler with improved surrounding skin quality
  • Combining with PDRN Face for comprehensive periorbital and facial rejuvenation

03

Deliverable

Results and What to Expect

Under-eye results develop gradually over the course of treatment:

  • Weeks 1–2: Early improvement in skin hydration and reduction in puffiness
  • Weeks 3–6: Progressive improvement in skin texture, thickness, and tone
  • After a full course: Visible reduction in dark circles (where vascular or inflammatory in origin)
  • Improved skin quality and a more rested overall appearance
  • Maintenance every 4–6 months sustains the result

Difference

Why the Under-Eye Area Is Different

The periorbital zone requires a fundamentally different clinical approach to the rest of the face.

Thinnest skin on the face

Approximately 0.5mm versus 2mm elsewhere — many treatments that work well on the rest of the face are contraindicated or carry elevated risk here.

No risk of Tyndall effect

Unlike HA fillers in this area, PDRN carries no risk of bluish discolouration or migration.

Anti-inflammatory

PDRN reduces rather than exacerbates the puffiness tendency common in this zone.

Doctor-administered

The periorbital area requires precise injection technique — every PDRN treatment at EGA is administered by a doctor.

Combines well

Works alongside tear trough filler (where appropriate), Profhilo, PRP, and other regenerative treatments as part of a comprehensive eye-area programme.

Questions

Common Questions

Is PDRN safe under the eyes?

Yes — PDRN is among the appropriate treatments for the periorbital area, specifically because it does not add volume and has no risk of the Tyndall effect or migration associated with HA fillers. It is also anti-inflammatory, which reduces rather than exacerbates the puffiness tendency common in this zone.

Will this remove my dark circles?

Dark circles have multiple causes. PDRN addresses the vascular (thin skin over blood vessels) and inflammatory/pigmentary components effectively. Structural dark circles caused by deep hollowing may require additional treatment. Your clinician will assess the primary cause at your appointment.

Is the injection painful?

The under-eye area is sensitive. Topical anaesthetic cream is applied before treatment to minimise discomfort. Many clients describe mild pressure during injection rather than pain. The session is brief.

How many sessions do I need?

A course of 3–4 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart is recommended. Results accumulate progressively and continue to develop for several weeks after the final session.

Is there any downtime?

Mild redness and occasional bruising in the periorbital area for 24–48 hours. The under-eye area bruises more easily than other facial zones — this is normal and resolves. Many clients can return to normal activities the same day.
