Skin Renewal atthe Cellular Level

Polynucleotides (PDRN) work differently from every other injectable treatment — not by adding volume or hydration, but by activating your skin's own repair mechanisms at the DNA level.

What's Covered

Polynucleotides (PN) and polydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRN) are highly purified DNA fragments — long chains of nucleotides derived from salmon or trout DNA, which shares a high degree of compatibility with human DNA. After extensive purification to remove proteins and other biological material, what remains are the structural DNA building blocks that cells use as the raw material for repair and regeneration. Think of PDRN as providing cells with the biological instructions and raw materials they need to renew themselves — activating the skin's own repair systems at a fundamental level, rather than introducing a foreign substance to produce a cosmetic effect. When injected into the skin, PDRN activates adenosine A2A receptors on fibroblasts — the cells responsible for producing collagen, elastin, and the extracellular matrix — triggering a cascade of regenerative activity: increased collagen and elastin synthesis, reduced inflammation, improved cellular metabolism, and enhanced tissue repair. Clinical studies have reported increases in skin thickness and collagen production after treatment.

01Skin texture and tone

PDRN restores the extracellular matrix — the structural scaffold of the dermis — improving skin texture from rough and uneven to smooth and refined. Pore appearance, surface irregularity, and overall skin tone all improve as tissue quality improves.

02Fine lines and early laxity

By stimulating genuine new collagen and elastin synthesis, PDRN progressively reduces the appearance of fine lines and improves skin elasticity over the course of treatment — without adding volume or altering facial structure.

03Radiance and vitality

PDRN improves cellular metabolism in the dermis, which translates visibly as improved skin luminosity. Dull, tired-looking skin responds particularly well.

04Anti-inflammatory & antioxidant action

PDRN scavenges hydroxyl free radicals — one of the more damaging reactive oxygen species — reducing the oxidative stress that accelerates skin ageing. Direct anti-inflammatory properties make it appropriate for reactive or sensitive skin that cannot tolerate more aggressive treatments.

05Hyperpigmentation and uneven tone

The anti-inflammatory action reduces melanocyte activity driven by chronic inflammation, progressively improving post-inflammatory marks and uneven pigmentation.

06How the session works

Topical anaesthetic applied to the face. Your clinician treats the full face with PDRN injections across the relevant zones. Total treatment time approximately 45–60 minutes.

A course of 3–4 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart is standard. Results are typically maintained for 4–6 months; maintenance sessions twice yearly sustain the outcome.

Audience

Who It's For

PDRN works by improving the quality of the skin tissue itself — making it appropriate for a wide range of clients.

  • Dull, uneven, or damaged skin wanting cellular-level regeneration rather than a surface treatment
  • Fine lines and early skin laxity — wanting genuine new collagen rather than masking the appearance of ageing
  • Sensitive or reactive skin for whom laser, peels, or microneedling are unsuitable
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or acne scarring — wanting an anti-inflammatory regenerative approach
  • Recovery support after more aggressive treatments such as laser or chemical peels
  • Long-term skin health as part of an overall longevity programme rather than cosmetic correction of a single concern

03

Deliverable

Results and What to Expect

PDRN results develop progressively as cellular regeneration accumulates:

  • Weeks 1–2: Improved skin hydration and early improvement in radiance
  • Weeks 3–6: Progressive improvement in texture, tone, and fine lines as collagen synthesis builds
  • After a full course: Visible improvement in skin quality, firmness, and evenness
  • Results continue to develop for several weeks after the final session
  • Maintenance twice yearly sustains the outcome

04

Difference

PDRN vs Profhilo vs Dermal Filler

PDRN occupies its own clinical category — distinct from hydrating, bio-remodelling, or volumising injectables.

Primary action

PDRN: cellular regeneration via DNA repair activation. Profhilo: bio-remodelling and deep hydration. Dermal Filler: volume addition.

Adds volume

PDRN: no. Profhilo: no. Dermal Filler: yes.

Sensitive skin

PDRN is anti-inflammatory and among the appropriate treatments for sensitive or reactive skin — it actively calms the skin rather than stressing it.

Combines with other treatments

Works well alongside PRP, Profhilo, and other regenerative treatments. Also used as a post-treatment recovery accelerator following laser or chemical peels.

Mechanism

Activates adenosine A2A receptors on fibroblasts — triggering collagen and elastin synthesis, reduced inflammation, improved cellular metabolism, and enhanced tissue repair.

Questions

Common Questions

Where does PDRN come from?

PDRN used in aesthetic medicine is derived from the DNA of salmon or trout — species whose DNA has a high structural compatibility with human DNA. The raw material is extensively processed and purified to remove all proteins, allergens, and cellular components. What remains is a highly purified DNA fragment solution with no meaningful risk of allergic reaction.

Is PDRN the same as PRP?

No. PRP uses your own blood's growth factors to stimulate tissue repair. PDRN works through a completely different mechanism — activating adenosine receptors to trigger cellular regeneration and collagen synthesis. The two treatments are complementary and are often used together.

Is this treatment suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes — PDRN is among the appropriate aesthetic treatments for sensitive or reactive skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties actively calm the skin and support barrier repair, rather than stressing it further.

How many sessions do I need?

A course of 3–4 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results. Maintenance sessions every 4–6 months preserve the outcome.

Is there any downtime?

Temporary redness and small injection-site bumps typically resolve within a few hours. Mild bruising is possible but uncommon.

Can PDRN be combined with other treatments?

PDRN works well alongside PRP, Profhilo, and other regenerative treatments. It is also used as a post-treatment recovery accelerator following more aggressive procedures such as laser or chemical peels.
