What's Covered

LaseMD Ultra is a 1927nm fractional thulium laser. Applied to the scalp, it creates thousands of microscopic thermal microchannels through the surface skin — leaving surrounding tissue intact — that serve two simultaneous functions. Laser-stimulated follicular activation: the controlled thermal energy triggers a localised healing response in the scalp tissue, improving blood circulation to the follicle, activating the dermal papilla cells that govern the hair growth cycle, and stimulating the transition of dormant follicles from the resting phase (telogen) back into active growth (anagen). The thermal effect also reduces scalp inflammation — a contributing factor in follicle miniaturisation in androgenetic alopecia. Laser-Assisted Drug Delivery (LADD): the microchannels allow the targeted hair growth serum to penetrate directly to the level of the follicle bulb — achieving much deeper absorption than topical application alone, according to the manufacturer. Applied topically without prior laser treatment, the same serum would be blocked by the skin barrier and unable to reach the follicle in clinically meaningful concentrations.

01Targeted hair growth serum

Contains active ingredients that support follicular biology — promoting growth factor activity, reducing DHT-related miniaturisation signals, and supporting the cellular environment in which healthy hair growth occurs. Delivered through the laser-created microchannels directly to follicle level.

02Step 1 — Scalp assessment

Your clinician assesses your hair loss pattern, the condition of your scalp, and the most appropriate treatment zones.

03Step 2 — Topical preparation (optional)

A topical anaesthetic is applied to the scalp for 20–30 minutes before treatment.

04Step 3 — LaseMD laser pass

The LaseMD Ultra handpiece is applied across the treatment area, creating microscopic thermal channels in the scalp.

05Step 4 — Serum delivery

The targeted hair growth serum is applied immediately after the laser pass and absorbed through the laser-created microchannels to the follicle level. Total treatment time: approximately 30 minutes.

06Addressing the underlying cause

Laser scalp treatment stimulates follicular activity — but hair loss often has contributing causes that, if unaddressed, limit how durable the results will be. Iron deficiency, thyroid dysfunction, hormonal imbalance, and nutritional deficiency are among the most common. EGA's clinical infrastructure allows these to be identified and addressed through targeted blood testing alongside your laser scalp programme.

A course of 3 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart is recommended. Results are most pronounced in clients with early-to-moderate thinning where viable follicles remain.

Audience

Who It's For

Laser scalp treatment is well-suited to clients with viable hair follicles wanting a needle-free stimulation approach.

  • Androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern hair loss) at an early to moderate stage
  • Diffuse hair thinning — generalised reduction in hair density and calibre
  • Recovering from telogen effluvium triggered by stress, illness, or hormonal change
  • Want a needle-free alternative or complement to PRP scalp treatment
  • Post hair transplant — to support graft survival, reduce shock loss, and accelerate regrowth in the post-operative period
  • Combining laser stimulation with PRP scalp as part of a comprehensive hair restoration programme

Hair loss often has contributing causes (iron, thyroid, hormonal). EGA can identify and address these through targeted blood testing alongside your laser scalp programme.

Deliverable

Results and What to Expect

Hair regrowth following laser scalp treatment develops progressively:

  • Weeks 4–8: Reduction in hair shedding is typically the first sign of response
  • Months 2–3: Improved hair calibre and quality of existing hair; early new growth in treated areas
  • Months 4–6: Increased hair density and visible improvement in coverage following a full course
  • Mild scalp redness and sensitivity for 24–48 hours post-treatment
  • Results are most pronounced where viable follicles remain

04

Difference

LaseMD Scalp vs PRP Scalp

Both LaseMD scalp and PRP scalp treatments stimulate dormant follicles and support hair regrowth — but through different mechanisms. They are complementary rather than competing treatments.

Mechanism

LaseMD: laser thermal activation + active serum delivered through microchannels. PRP: concentrated growth factors from your own blood delivered by injection.

Active agent

LaseMD: targeted hair growth serum (laser-delivered). PRP: autologous platelet-derived growth factors.

Session time

LaseMD: approximately 30 minutes. PRP: approximately 45–60 minutes.

Needles

LaseMD: no — preferred for needle-averse clients. PRP: yes (injection into scalp).

Combined approach

For clients committed to a comprehensive hair restoration programme, combining LaseMD scalp with PRP scalp across alternating sessions maximises the range of biological stimuli delivered to the follicle. Your clinician will advise on the most appropriate approach for your hair loss pattern.

05

Questions

Common Questions

How is this different from PRP scalp treatment?

LaseMD scalp uses laser energy to stimulate the follicle and deliver a targeted serum through laser-created microchannels — no needles involved. PRP delivers concentrated growth factors from your own blood via injection directly into the scalp. Both stimulate follicular activity through different biological mechanisms and are frequently combined for a more comprehensive result. LaseMD is the preferred option for clients who are needle-averse or want to alternate with PRP sessions.

Is the treatment painful?

Topical anaesthetic is applied before the laser pass. Many clients describe mild warmth and a prickling sensation during treatment. The scalp is generally well-tolerated with topical numbing in place.

Is there any downtime?

Minimal. Mild redness and scalp sensitivity for 24–48 hours. Avoiding vigorous exercise, heat exposure (sauna, steam), and certain hair products for 48 hours post-treatment is advised.

Can I combine this with PRP scalp treatment?

Yes — and for clients committed to a comprehensive hair restoration programme, combining both treatments is clinically logical. They work through different mechanisms and deliver complementary biological stimuli to the follicle. Your clinician will advise on the optimal sequencing.

How many sessions do I need?

A course of 3 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart is recommended. Many clients notice reduced shedding after the first or second session, with more significant improvement in density apparent after completing the full course.

Do I need blood tests before starting?

Not as a prerequisite for treatment, but EGA recommends blood testing to identify any underlying causes of hair loss — ferritin, thyroid, sex hormones — particularly if the cause is unknown or suspected to be systemic. Your clinician will advise at your first appointment.
