What's Covered
The EGA Essential GP Consultation is a 30-minute, in-person appointment — three times the length of a standard NHS GP slot. It is designed for straightforward medical concerns that deserve more than a rushed appointment.
01Assessment of a health concern
Your doctor will take a proper clinical history, examine where relevant, and make a clear assessment. Whether you have a specific symptom to investigate or a medical question you want answered with clinical depth, this appointment gives you the time to do it properly.
02Prescriptions
Private prescriptions can be issued at the appointment and used at any UK pharmacy. This includes new medications, short-course treatments, travel medications, and continuation of existing prescriptions where clinically appropriate.
03Referral letters
If specialist input is required — whether for a private consultant or to route you back into NHS secondary care — your doctor can issue a clinical referral letter. Most insurance policies require a GP referral letter to validate specialist claims.
04Sick notes and medical certificates
Private fit notes (sick notes) are accepted by the vast majority of UK employers. Your doctor can issue these at the appointment where clinically appropriate. Medical certificates for travel or insurance can also be arranged.
05Second opinions
If you have received a diagnosis, test result, or clinical recommendation that you want reviewed by another doctor, this appointment provides the time and clinical depth to do so properly.
06Pre-investigation consultation
If you are planning blood testing or specialist assessment and want a GP to review your situation first to ensure the right tests are ordered, this consultation is the appropriate entry point.
Suitable for single defined concerns. For complex, multi-system, or ongoing health issues, the GP Consultation — Advanced (1 hour) is recommended.

Difference
The EGA Difference
London has many private GPs; EGA focuses on longevity context and clinical depth.
Longevity context
EGA doctors are trained in longevity and preventive medicine. A concern is assessed not just for immediate management, but in the context of your long-term cardiovascular and metabolic health.
Clinical infrastructure
If your consultation identifies a need for advanced testing or hormonal assessment, EGA has the in-house infrastructure to act on it without sending you to multiple providers.
Time is a diagnostic tool
30 minutes is the minimum we offer because a proper clinical assessment requires it. It allows for follow-up questions that often reveal the most significant findings.

Questions
Common Questions
Do I need to be registered at EGA to book?
No registration is required. You can book a one-off appointment online or by phone without any prior registration.
Do I need a referral from my NHS GP?
No. You can book directly without any referral.
Can I keep seeing my NHS GP as well?
Yes. Seeing a private GP does not affect your NHS registration. Many patients use both — NHS for ongoing care and EGA for specialist input or timely access.
Can a private GP refer me to NHS services?
Yes. Private GPs can issue referral letters that are accepted through the NHS e-Referral System, routing you into NHS secondary care where appropriate.
Will I get a prescription if I need one?
Yes, where clinically appropriate. Private prescriptions are issued at the appointment and valid at any UK pharmacy. Note that pharmacies charge the full cost of the medication.
Are sick notes from a private GP accepted by employers?
Yes. Private fit notes are accepted by the vast majority of UK employers. Your doctor can issue a private fit note at the appointment.
Can I get a referral letter for my private medical insurance?
Yes. Most private medical insurance policies require a GP referral letter to validate specialist claims. Your EGA doctor can issue this at the appointment.
Does seeing a private GP affect my NHS records?
No. Your NHS records are separate. If you would like a summary shared with your NHS GP, your doctor can arrange this with your consent.
