Your Genes Don't Change.Understanding Them Does.

A single DNA test tells you how your body is genetically wired — how it processes nutrients, manages inflammation, detoxifies, and responds to exercise. Used alongside blood testing, it is one of the most powerful tools in personalised longevity medicine.

What's Covered

DNA testing in the context of health and longevity is not about ancestry. It is about understanding the genetic variants — known as SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) — that affect how your body functions at a biochemical level. Your DNA does not diagnose disease. What it does is reveal your genetic predispositions so that your nutrition, supplementation, and lifestyle can be precisely tailored to how your body actually works.

01Nutrition and supplementation

How your body absorbs and metabolises key vitamins and minerals — including vitamin D, B12, folate, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids. Genetic variants in these pathways are common and directly affect how much of a nutrient you need to achieve adequate biological levels.

02Methylation and detoxification

Methylation is one of the most fundamental processes in the body — governing DNA repair, neurotransmitter synthesis, hormone clearance, and cellular detoxification. Variants in the methylation pathway (including MTHFR) affect how efficiently your body converts folate and B vitamins into active forms, regulates homocysteine, and clears toxins.

03Metabolism and weight management

Genetic variants influencing metabolic rate, fat storage patterns, appetite regulation, and carbohydrate versus fat utilisation — providing a biological explanation for why certain dietary approaches work for you and others do not.

04Inflammation risk

Your baseline genetic inflammatory tendency — how your body is wired to respond to dietary, environmental, and metabolic triggers. Some individuals carry variants that predispose them to a higher inflammatory response.

05Cardiovascular prevention

Genetic variants affecting lipid metabolism, blood pressure regulation, and clotting tendency — a genetic layer of cardiovascular risk assessment that complements blood biomarker data.

06Exercise strategy and recovery

Whether you are genetically better suited to endurance or power training, how quickly you recover, and your injury risk profile. This allows your exercise strategy to be built around your actual biology rather than generic recommendations.

07Caffeine and alcohol sensitivity

How quickly your body metabolises caffeine and alcohol — with direct implications for sleep quality, cardiovascular risk, and tolerance.

Audience

Who It's For

This test is for you if you:

  • Want a personalised nutrition and supplementation strategy based on your genetics, not population averages
  • Have completed blood testing and want to understand the genetic architecture behind your results
  • Are health-conscious and want to optimise diet, exercise, and lifestyle around your individual biology
  • Have struggled with certain interventions (diets, supplements, exercise approaches) that work for others
  • Have a family history of cardiovascular disease, metabolic conditions, or autoimmune disorders
  • Are exploring methylation, MTHFR, or detoxification questions clinically rather than via consumer apps

DNA testing at EGA requires a brief clinician consultation to ensure the right panel is selected.

Deliverable

Your DNA Report

Your DNA results are not returned as a raw data file or a consumer app dashboard. They are reviewed by an EGA clinician and returned as a structured report with written medical commentary — contextualised within your individual health picture.

  • Clinician-reviewed interpretation of relevant SNPs
  • Specific implications for nutrition, supplementation, lifestyle, and exercise
  • Cross-referenced with your blood biomarker data where available
  • Plain-language explanation of every finding
  • Actionable recommendations rather than a list of variants and risk scores

Difference

Why EGA Goes Further

Blood testing tells you what is happening in your body right now. DNA testing tells you what your body is genetically predisposed to. Used together, they provide two complementary layers of insight — the foundation of precision longevity medicine.

Clinician-reviewed report

Your DNA results are not a consumer dashboard. They are reviewed by an EGA clinician and returned as a structured medical document with written commentary.

Integrated with your health data

If you have completed an EGA blood panel, your clinician can cross-reference your genetic predispositions with your actual current markers — identifying where your genetics are actively expressing as measurable dysfunction.

Actionable outcomes

Every finding in your report comes with specific, practical implications for nutrition, supplementation, lifestyle, and exercise — not just a list of variants and risk scores.

Optional Longevity Plan

If your DNA results — particularly in combination with blood data — reveal patterns you want to address comprehensively, you can add a personalised EGA Longevity Plan. Available as a separate service.

Questions

Common Questions

Will this test tell me if I am going to get a specific disease?

No. DNA testing assesses genetic predispositions and functional variants — not diagnostic disease markers. It reveals tendencies and informs personalised health strategies. It does not predict whether you will develop any specific condition.

How is this different from consumer DNA tests like 23andMe?

Consumer tests provide general population-level information, often without clinical context or actionable guidance. EGA DNA testing is clinician-reviewed, focused on clinically relevant functional variants, and interpreted in the context of your individual health picture.

Do I need a blood test as well as a DNA test?

Not necessarily — but the combination is significantly more powerful. DNA testing reveals your genetic predispositions. Blood testing reveals your current biological state. Together, they show which of your genetic tendencies are actively expressing as measurable problems.

What does the test involve?

A simple cheek swab or saliva sample — no blood draw required. The sample is collected at our London clinic and takes approximately 10 minutes.

What is MTHFR and should I be worried about it?

MTHFR is a gene critical to the methylation pathway. Variants in MTHFR are among the most common in the population. Having one does not mean you have a disease — it means your methylation pathway functions less efficiently and that you may benefit from specific forms of B vitamins and targeted nutritional support.

Is my genetic data secure?

Yes. Your genetic data is stored in full compliance with UK GDPR and never shared with third parties — including insurance companies — without your explicit consent.

Can my DNA results affect my insurance?

In the UK, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) code of practice means insurers cannot request predictive genetic test results and you are not required to disclose them.

Can I do a DNA test if I am pregnant?

The cheek swab collection is safe during pregnancy. If you have specific questions, please contact our team before booking.

Do I need a GP referral?

No GP referral is required. However, all DNA testing at EGA begins with a brief clinician consultation — to ensure the right panel is selected for your health goals.
