The Single StrongestLongevity Predictor.

A lab-based assessment of your maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂ Max), reflecting cardiac output, oxygen transport capacity, and muscular oxygen utilisation. The reference standard for cardiorespiratory fitness.

Panel

What's Covered

A graded exercise test to volitional maximum with breath-by-breath gas analysis, producing a direct measurement of VO₂ Max rather than the algorithms used by wearables. This assessment covers the physical domain most predictive of long-term health and functional capacity.

01Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF)

VO₂ Max reflects the integrated capacity of the lungs, heart, vasculature, and muscles to take in, transport, and use oxygen. It is a comprehensive measure of your engine's capacity.

02Longevity biomarker

Low cardiorespiratory fitness is a stronger predictor of early death than smoking, hypertension, or high cholesterol. Improving your VO₂ Max is one of the most effective ways to reduce all-cause mortality risk.

03Ventilatory Thresholds (VT1 & VT2)

We identify the precise points where your metabolism shifts from aerobic to anaerobic. These thresholds are the only accurate way to define your individual heart rate zones for low, moderate, and high-intensity training.

04Metabolic efficiency under load

Measuring gas exchange reveals how efficiently your body uses oxygen at different intensities, providing insight into your endurance capacity and performance limits.

Wearables estimate VO₂ Max from heart rate algorithms; a lab test measures it directly by analyzing the actual oxygen you consume and carbon dioxide you produce.

04

Difference

Why Lab Testing Over Wearable Estimates

Consumer wearables provide useful trends but are not clinical measurements. Lab testing remains the gold standard.

Direct gas analysis

We measure oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide output in real time. Wearables only estimate this based on heart rate, which can be affected by heat, stress, and hydration.

Identifies thresholds

A lab test identifies your ventilatory thresholds (VT1/VT2), which cannot be accurately determined by a watch. These are the key to effective "Zone 2" and interval training.

Clinical supervision

Your test is conducted in a clinical environment by specialists who can interpret your results within a wider health and longevity framework.

Questions

Common Questions

Is the test physically demanding?

Yes. The protocol increases workload progressively until you reach your individual maximum. You should attend rested and well-hydrated, and avoid heavy training for 24 hours beforehand.

How long does the test last?

The exercise portion typically lasts between 8 and 15 minutes, but the full appointment is about 45 minutes to allow for screening, preparation, and recovery.

Is it safe?

VO₂ Max testing is extremely safe and well-established. We conduct a pre-test screening. If you have significant cardiovascular disease or unstable conditions, please discuss this with us in advance.

Do I need to be "fit" to do the test?

No. The test measures where you are currently. It is as valuable for a beginner starting a fitness journey as it is for a competitive athlete. The results are compared to age-matched norms.

How often should I retest?

Typically every 6 to 12 months if you are actively training to improve your fitness, or annually as a long-term longevity baseline.

Should I do this or the Complete Human Performance Assessment Package?

If you want a full view including metabolic rate, body composition, and strength, the Complete Package (£•••) is much better value. Choose this test if you are specifically focused on cardiovascular fitness.
