Your MetabolismAnd Your Engine.
RMR tells you how much fuel your body burns at rest. VO₂ Max tells you how efficiently your cardiovascular system performs under load. Together, they give you the complete metabolic picture.

What's Covered
Two essential metabolic assessments conducted in a single session. We measure your physiology at two extremes: complete rest and maximum exertion, providing the most clinically informative view of your overall metabolic health.
01RMR — Resting Metabolic Rate
You lie comfortably for 15–20 minutes while a metabolic mask measures oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide output at rest. This reveals your precise resting calorie burn and whether your body is primarily burning fat or carbohydrates (respiratory quotient).
02VO₂ Max — Cardiorespiratory Fitness
A graded exercise test to maximum exertion on a stationary bike or treadmill. Produces a lab-grade VO₂ Max score, ventilatory thresholds, and individual heart rate training zones — the most accurate way to guide endurance training.
03Metabolic Range
The gap between your idle (RMR) and maximum (VO₂ Max) is a key indicator of metabolic health. A compressed range indicates metabolic dysfunction, while a wide range reflects high fitness and efficiency.
04Longevity Benchmarking
Both metrics are independently associated with long-term health. Low VO₂ Max is a stronger predictor of mortality than smoking, while RMR identifies the metabolic foundations for healthy weight and energy balance.
Understanding both numbers together, in the same session, produces recommendations that are more precise and actionable than either test provides alone.

Audience
Who It's For
For people who want a complete metabolic baseline rather than a partial picture.
- People who want to understand both how their body fuels itself at rest and how it performs under load
- Active people wanting to ensure they are training in the right zones and fuelling accurately
- People managing weight who want to know their actual caloric baseline rather than estimates
- People with a family history of cardiovascular or metabolic conditions seeking objective risk data
- People on GLP-1 medications who want to monitor metabolic rate and cardiovascular fitness together

Difference
Why These Two Belong Together
Individual metrics are useful; integrated assessment is what enables genuinely informed decisions.
Identifies the limiting factor
Combined data reveals where to direct effort for the greatest return — whether that is improving resting metabolic efficiency or increasing cardiovascular capacity.
Evidence-based longevity
These two metrics cover two of the most clinically significant longevity domains. Measuring them together is the first step to improving them through targeted intervention.
Value and efficiency
Complete both assessments in a single 75-minute visit and save £•• compared to booking them individually.

Questions
Common Questions
Why do I need to fast for 6 hours?
Both tests require a fasted state. RMR is elevated by digestion, which can inflate the reading. VO₂ Max requires a fast for accurate gas analysis and to avoid gastrointestinal discomfort during intense exercise.
Which test is done first?
Always RMR first. The VO₂ Max test is physically demanding and will elevate your metabolic rate for some time afterwards, making an accurate RMR measurement impossible if the order is reversed.
How long is the gap between the two tests?
A short rest period is allowed to allow your metabolic rate to return towards baseline before the VO₂ Max component begins. Your clinician will guide the timing on the day.
Is one test more important than the other?
They measure different things. For longevity, VO₂ Max has the stronger direct evidence base. For nutrition and weight management, RMR is more immediately applicable. Both matter for a complete picture.
I exercise regularly. Do I still need the RMR test?
Yes. Regular exercise does not guarantee a healthy RMR — particularly in people who have dieted repeatedly or have significant muscle loss. Many active people are surprised by their results.
When will I receive my report?
Your combined clinician-reviewed report will be delivered within 3 working days of your test session.
