What Your BodyActually Burns.
RMR testing is the only way to know — with clinical precision — how many calories your body actually burns at rest. Everything else is an estimate.

Panel
What's Covered
A direct measurement of the oxygen you consume at rest, used to calculate your resting metabolic rate (RMR), which typically accounts for 60–75% of everything you burn in a day.
01Basal energy expenditure
The number of calories your body burns just to keep you alive (breathing, heartbeat, brain function). This is the single most important variable for nutrition and weight management.
02Metabolic efficiency
Comparison of your measured RMR to predicted RMR based on your age, sex, and body composition. Identifies whether your metabolism is running higher or lower than population averages.
03Metabolic flexibility
Your respiratory quotient gives insight into whether your body preferentially burns fat or carbohydrates at rest. Low flexibility is associated with insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.
04Longevity relevance
Quantifies the metabolic cost of muscle loss and provides a clinical argument for muscle preservation. Muscle tissue is metabolically expensive and burns calories even at rest.
Predictive equations approximate RMR within wide error margins (±200–400 calories). Direct measurement is individual to your specific physiology.

Audience
Who It's For
Suitable for adults wanting an accurate metabolic baseline.
- People who have been eating in a calorie deficit and not losing weight as expected
- People wanting an accurate nutritional baseline rather than population-average estimates
- People following a structured diet or weight management programme
- Athletes and active people wanting to ensure they are fuelling training and recovery accurately
- People on GLP-1 medications who want metabolic monitoring alongside their treatment

Difference
Why Direct Measurement
Every calorie target you have ever been given was likely a guess. We replace estimation with measurement.
Individual measurement
Indirect calorimetry produces a value specific to your physiology, accounting for factors like history of dieting, muscle mass, and hormonal status that equations ignore.
Identifies adaptation
The test can identify "metabolic adaptation" — where your rate is lower than expected after prolonged restriction — allowing for more effective strategy adjustments.
Integrated data
We combine RMR data with InBody composition results to measure the metabolic output of your muscle mass, giving a complete picture of your metabolic health.

Questions
Common Questions
What is the difference between RMR and BMR?
BMR is measured under strict laboratory conditions (12+ hours fast, etc.). RMR is measured under real-world clinical conditions and is the standard used in clinical practice. The terms are often used interchangeably.
Why not just use an online calculator?
Calculators use predictive equations with a margin of error of ±200–400 calories. If you have low muscle mass, thyroid conditions, or have dieted repeatedly, the error can be much larger. The test measures you, not an estimate.
I am trying to lose weight and nothing is working. Can this test help?
Yes. An RMR test can identify whether your metabolic rate is lower than expected. Knowing your actual rate allows your nutrition strategy to be calibrated accurately rather than based on an estimate that may be wrong.
Does the test tell me how many calories I need in total each day?
Your RMR is the baseline (calories burned at rest). Your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) also includes activity and digestion. Your report will explain how to calculate your total needs based on your RMR.
Will the test detect a thyroid problem?
It measures the output of your metabolism, not its cause. A significantly low RMR may suggest thyroid dysfunction worth investigating, and our clinician's commentary will flag this where relevant.
When will I receive my report?
Your clinician-reviewed report will be delivered within 1-3 working days of your test.
